Pride caters to middle- and high-income African Americans. Six issues are published each year: four editions of Pride, the “Charlotte Multicultural Resource Magazine” and “Living With Pride.” Filled with information about business, education, health, fashion and lifestyle, Pride is THE media source to grab the African-American dollar. Why print media? More than 8 out of 10 black adults (85 percent) read magazines. The African-American consumer takes in images from 11.9 magazine issues per month, while most U.S. adults read only 9.1 issues monthly. Some 75,000 people read Pride bimonthly, of which 75 percent are women. The average Pride reader is between ages 35 and 64, college educated, employed and earns over $59,000 a year. Over half of Pride readers work in “white-collar” positions and use Pride as a shopping guide, learning tool and networking resource. In addition, 55% of African-Americans ages 18-54 with household income of $50K+ would purchase or support a product if it was sold or supported by a person of color or minority-owned business. 20,000 magazines are distributed in metro Charlotte and surrounding areas, including Albemarle, Concord, Kannapolis, Gastonia and Huntersville, as well as Rock Hill in South Carolina. Most of the magazines are delivered free
to over 600 locations.
