Give Me Some Sugar

Before you go trick or treating in a couple of weeks, you need to know more about what sugar is doing to your body. We’ve all heard that too much sugar is bad for us, right? Yes, we have. We’ve all heard that too much sugar contributes to weight gain but what is too much sugar?

Consuming more than 6 teaspoons (25 grams ) for women and 9 teaspoons (38 grams) for men a day is over the daily recommended allowance.

Here are some quick facts:

Did you know that too much sugar can age you? I did not know that growing up.  Now that I’m aware, I care! Around the age of 35 years-old is when most women start to pay attention to their skin. Eating too much sugar can weaken collagen and elastin in your skin. It’s one thing not to care about your waist line but we generally we don’t want our skin to wrinkle and look dull.

Sugar is addictive. The more you have the more you want. The craving prompted by sugar is compared to those induced by cocaine and nicotine. Yes, sugar effects the brainwaves like opioids does, scary huh? The bottom line is, sugar is in just about everything we eat. However, you can easily limit your intake by cutting down on your sweets and reading food labels. Try to stick to six teaspoons for women and nine teaspoons for men a day.

The older we get our bodies change and we should become more aware of what’s  going on. No, we can’t stop the aging process but we can stop consuming too much sugar.
