Greetings family! Time just keeps flying by because we are now in the month of August! And to kick off the hottest month of the year, I’ve found some true hotness boiling and brewing in the Queen City streets this weekend! From jazz, to food trucks, tributes, games and much more, you will definitely not want to remain indoors! Dapper Street Productions is set to give you a royal sound treatment this evening as they humbly welcome you to experience Jazz in the Key of Coltrane! Bandleader Lovell Bradford is ready to set the stage in motion and travel down the tunnels of jazz channeling the energy of one of music’s most prolific dignitaries, the late, great John Coltrane. Tonight, the band is hot and ready to give you a taste of some of the A-Trane’s best known works including ‘Giant Steps,’ ‘My Favorite Things’ and ‘A Love Supreme.’ Admission is FREE to attend. Join Charlotte Talks Radio of WFAE at The McGlohon Theater this evening as they host a special and necessary live broadcast entitled “Beyond She Says: Sexual Assault in Charlotte” this evening. For a sexual assault survivor, speaking up about abuse can be daunting. Many never come forward. However for those that do, finding a resolution can be a winding and frustrating road. WFAE’s “She Says” podcast has followed one woman’s story of sexual assault and her long path towards justice. As the podcast concludes, Charlotte Talks host Mike Collins delves further into the topic of sexual assault in Charlotte in a special WFAE Public Conversation. Tonight, you’ll find out how these cases are investigated, discuss what victims go through, and explore whether justice is being served. “She Says” host Sarah Delia, law enforcement officials, and victim’s rights advocates will participate in a panel discussion and public forum. Local grassroots initiative collective The Agenda has been giving your Summer some much needed flavor on Charlotte’s Historic West End Corridor. But this evening, in collaboration with Historic West End Initiative bring the entire family out for a special installment of community interface entitled Mosaic Live First Fridays: The Computer LUV Edition! It’s all technicalities and terrabytes this evening with art, music, business conversations and games from collaborator Potions & Pixels! It’s time for another first Friday edition of Jazz at the Bechtler! For tonight’s listening experience, in-house sound masters, The Ziad Jazz Quartet teams up with renowned trumpeter Curtis Taylor to the Bechtler stage for a night of unflinchingly vibrant and rousing jazz collaborations. This documentary will highlight the city’s history and how a whole community of Black constituents flourished and how their livelihood was destroyed by a vicious mob of incendiary violence and hate.
