The wait is over Brothers and Sisters—CIAA Tournament 2019 is here! There’s all sorts of hotness to get into this weekend, but for this particular Special Edition of The Rundown, yours truly, The Black Ferris Bueller, wanted to keep it in the community. Today’s workshop, entitled, “Poetry In Action” will feature hands-on interaction and instruction from local poetry and educational collective, Guerilla Poets. In collaboration with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Community Read, this in-depth workshop led by Guerilla Poets members and artists Nikii Vonn, Jah Smalls and Tarik Kiley aka “Mixed Thoughts” will lead participants to explore the comparison between the book and film The Hate U Give to the music and poetry of Tupac Shakur. There will be a poetry exercise based on self-reflection and an art exercise on the dichotomy of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s abstract art (defining our individual reality).
