What’s the word everyone? I hope you all have had a wonderful Thanksgiving and full of joy, love and laughter in addition to all the food. However, it is a new week and I’ve got some stuff in store that’ll get your bodies going to bring some energy back to you and lose those calories with all sorts of dance workshops, holiday shopping, art classes, funky music and lots more! This evening, join Historic West End Initiative in conjunction with social justice creative Janelle Dunlap and The Yolk Café Executive Chef Greg Collier as they have teamed up to present to you “Open House: Art, Food & Conversations About Gentrification” this evening. This eclectic multisensory experience will feature a gentrified menu will include six “New Southern Tastings” paired with a house-made cocktail tackling the issue of gentrification. Everyone come and get all 360 degrees of your being filled with art at the December Edition Uptown Crawl! All of Uptown Charlotte’s art treasures will be open for the general public this evening and you’ll get an opportunity to scour and scope art at The Gantt Center, Mint Museum Uptown, New Gallery of Modern Art, Sozo Gallery, The McColl, UNCC Center City, Goodyear Arts and The Levine Museum of the New South. You’ll be able to begin the tour at any of the featured institutions, then travel freely between the stops by foot, trolley, or bike. Each stop on the tour will feature a special look at the art held within. Admission is FREE! All venues and museums are in the Uptown area and will begin at 6 p.m.

The Levine Museum of the New South invites you to come out to their Wine + Chocolate Sip & Shop this evening! Head out to The Evening Muse for a special artful community conversation entitled NoDa Drinks & Thinks! The event is part of a series to help bring back the lost arts of conversation and dialogue. Salon-style discussions take place in a casual environment and promote creative thoughts and knowledge-sharing. The guest creatives and speakers this evening are Osiris Rain, Sharon Dowell and Sam Guzzie who will encourage you to exercise your thinking muscles in the comfort of a neighborhood venue. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library invites you to the Main Branch this evening for a special screening of their Scenes of a Black Woman film series. For tonight’s feature and series finale, come and view the 1991 cult classic, the Julie Dash-directed, “Daughters of the Dust”. Scenes of a Black Woman is a series of films about Black women, created by Black filmmakers and a celebration of Black cinema. There will be a short discussion of themes and aesthetics after the film. Admission is FREE to attend. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the film will start at 6 p.m. 310 N. Tryon St. in Uptown.

The vibrant energy of Aminata Creations invites you out to NoDa@28th Creative Arts Studios for the “Afro-Soca & Djembe Dance!” If you love the energizing sounds of Soca music and the pulsating rhythms of djembe dance, join her in this marriage of rhythmic music and movement. The first session of the evening will highlight Senegalese (West African) dancing paired with djembe percussionist. The second half will focus on African dancing set to Soca music. Head out to C3 Lab and come celebrate the release of renowned photographer Micah Cash‘s first book, “Dangerous Waters: A Photo Essay on the Tennessee Valley Authority” this evening. The three year project, collected by University of Tennessee Press, documented the physical and social ramifications of Tennessee Valley Authority’s hydroelectric dams. This special exhibition of photographs explores the architecture, public space, and ecological disruption of TVA’s hydroelectric dams. There will be live musical performances by The Witness Marks and Post-Timey String Band. Kick off your jazzy holiday season as the Ziad Jazz Quartet presents “Jingle Bell Jazz” at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. This evening, head out to the Beatties Ford Library Branch for the second installment of the Kwanzaa Workshop Series. Tonight’s theme, “The Philosophy/History of Kwanzaa” is designed for high-school, college and adult participants. This discussion examines the cultural philosophy which is the basis of the seven-day Kwanzaa celebr,tion that was created during the 60’s struggle for civil rights. Your facilitator for the evening is Tahirah Farrer-Bradley. The lesson will begin at 6:30 p.m. The library is located at 2412 Beatties Ford Rd.

All you vinyl enthusiasts, music lovers, collectors and cool people, join DJ Justin Aswell as he hosts another fly session of “B.Y.O.V. (Bring Your Own Vinyl)!” Whether you have wax or not, come out and hear a diverse array of tunes, grooves, jams and more!
