Everyone come and get all 360 degrees of your being filled with art at the April Uptown Crawl! All of Uptown Charlotte’s art treasures will be open for the general public this evening and you’ll get an opportunity to scour and scope art at Sage Salon & Studio, Mint Museum Uptown, New Gallery of Modern Art, Sozo Gallery, The McColl, UNCC Center City, and The Levine Museum of the New South. You’ll be able to begin the tour at any of the featured institutions, then travel freely between the stops by foot, trolley, or bike. Each stop on the tour will feature a special look at the art held within. In addition, McCormick & Schmick’s will be offering specials during the crawl. Admission is FREE! All venues and museums are in the Uptown area and will begin at 6 p.m.

 

 

The YWCA of Central Carolinas invites you out for a special and necessary discussion entitled “Micro-Aggressions: Insults & Dismissals from People In Power.” This forum will offer attendees the opportunity to learn and talk about about “micro-aggressions,” those acts and slights not always intended to hurt and often delivered unconsciously, but nevertheless hurtful and marginalizing. Micro-aggressions create and reinforce stereotypes that devalue us all. Whether you have been on the receiving end of microaggressions or whether you might wonder if you have delivered any, YWCA Central Carolinas offers a safe space to learn, grow and try another perspective. His popular yet controversial creations can now be found all over the globe, and his stunning proposal recently won the commission for the new transportation hub at the rebuilt World Trade Center in New York City. The McColl Center of Art + Innovation invites you out to their Community Pie Social this evening. This gathering is a time for neighborly fellowship and conversation over pie about topical issues that impact people’s daily lives. The McColl Center’s current exhibition, Transitory Emplacements, is their starting point. The exhibition addresses themes of homelessness, migration, and belonging in relation to power and identity. Also under consideration is their A Tale of Two Cities initiative, which seeks to elevate the voices of our North Tryon neighbors experiencing homelessness. The discussion will include Dr. Keith Cradle, the Adolescent Program Manager for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, Carmen Fowler, Assistant Director of Moore Place, and photographic activist Alvin C. Jazz Arts Initiative is back for the month of April and on this episode of their critically-acclaimed series, The Jazz Room, gear your ears to the stage as the ever-fine Eileina Dennis pays vocal homage to the late, great Sarah Vaughn. Eileina Dennis was raised in Birmingham, England. A minister’s daughter, Dennis sang Gospel throughout her teens. After relocating to London where she had a notable career as an R&B and pop singer and performing alongside noted artists such as Randy Crawford, Paul Young, and the Italian rock star Zucchero Fornaciari.
