We’re Celebrating 30 Years!
Debuting in 1993, Pride Magazine’s longevity is a key advantage in the Charlotte market and beyond. With a thirty-year history, the magazine has established a strong footprint and brand not only within the African American market, but also among corporate entities, nonprofits and community leaders, as well. The magazine originated at the Charlotte Observer and was purchased by Dee Dixon in 2001, launching her career as an entrepreneur as CEO of Pride Communications/Pride Magazine.
The Pride Awards have played an integral role in the success of the magazine, while at the same time becoming one of Charlotte’s premier community affairs, recognizing the outstanding contributions and accomplishments of local African Americans. This event began as a themed black-tie gala set during MLK weekend in January. Raising funds for worthy nonprofits throughout the city was and still is a mission of this historic event. (Over a quarter of a million dollars has been donated to local nonprofits over the years through the Pride Awards). In recent years, the Pride Awards successfully transitioned into a luncheon, with a move to Black History month. Now it’s time to Celebrate 30 Years with a unique “Day Ball.”
PRIDE AWARDS 2023
Plans for Pride Awards 2023 are underway. This year’s event is set to continue our longstanding commitment to produce an innovative experience that will enlighten, engage and entertain diverse citizens from across the Charlotte community. This will include presenting three awards:
- The Pride Inspiration Award – Given to a worthy nonprofit
- The Pride Innovation Award – Given to an outstanding tech business owner or leader
- The Pride “Techie” Award – Given to an outstanding youth in the field of technology
This year’s monetary donation will be made to the nonprofit recipient. We will also highlight how our major sponsors have used innovative thinking to foster change within their organizations or within the communities they serve.
