Pride Communications, Inc. is the parent company of Pride Magazine, a local publication distributed in Charlotte, N.C.,and the surrounding areas. The magazine is a positive, meaningful and influential icon in the community, with compelling stories that touch the spirit and soul of the reader.

In 2003, Pride introduced its very popular “Living with Pride” edition, featuring the homes, décor and lifestyles of upscale African Americans in the region. In 2009, Pride launched the “Charlotte Multicultural Resource Guide,” a unique publication hybrid that is part magazine and part business directory of people of color. Stories focus on various aspects of diversity within the Charlotte MSA. Pride Communications also produces two signature events — the Pride Awards and the Sunset Jazz Festival — to give back to the community on a larger scale.

The Pride Awards in January is one of Charlotte’s premier black-tie affairs, recognizing the contributions and achievements of local African Americans. Each year, the awards focus on a different theme, such as the arts, education, entrepreneurship and community service. In addition to celebrating the accomplishments of individuals, the Pride Awards recognize and support local organizations whose work is of significance to African Americans by donating funds annually.

The Sunset Jazz Festival in September features free entertainment and offers businesses and sponsors the opportunity to mix and mingle with the community outside of their corporate boundaries. Families, friends and neighbors of all walks of life convene for a relaxing and funfilled weekend of jazz and other entertainment. The Sunset Jazz Festival is an ideal way to bridge and build relationships between corporations (sponsors) and the African-American community.

Pride Public Relations (, another division of Pride Communications, specializes in public relations, media relations, brand management, community relations, website design and marketing research. Founded in 2008, Pride Entrepreneur Education Program, or PEEP, is a 501(c)(3) whose initiatives promote education, the attainment of marketable skills, financial literacy and entrepreneurship among under served youth ages 10-25 in the Charlotte area. More than $70,000 in scholarships has been awarded to local students for post-high school education.
