Local Girl Scouts earn top recognition with prestigious Gold Award

Exceptional youth leaders earn Girl Scouts’ highest award despite pandemic

CHARLOTTE, NC – Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council has announced this year’s Gold Award recipients.  The prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting and challenges girls ages 14 to17 to initiate meaningful, sustainable change locally, nationally, and even globally through their own unique ‘Take Action’ projects.

“The Gold Award recognition is the achievement of a lifetime,” said Tayuanee Dewberry, CEO of Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council.  “These young ladies are the best of the best. This recognition is something many young girls aspire to achieve, yet only a small percentage accomplish. The Hornets’ Nest Council could not be prouder of this year’s recipients.”

This award is only available to Girl Scouts. Click here to learn more information about this year’s winners and their projects. Research confirms the lifetime benefits for Gold Award Girl Scouts and the positive impact the award has on their lives. Click here for downloadable photos of each girl.

About Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council

Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through the Girl Scout leadership experience, girls of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them. Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council is headquartered in Charlotte and serves girls and adults in eight counties of North and South Carolina, which include Anson, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Rowan, Stanly, Union, and York (S.C.).
