There’s quite a bit of festivals with some truly unique works of art taking center stage and screen and if you open your minds, you’ll be sure to truly experience and appreciate some wondrous creativity from your community. Tonight, step into the mind of reality set in prose and come experience some interactive workshops of the all-new and all-original “The Danger: A Homage to Strange Fruit.” Written by local award winning playwright Stacey Rose, “The Danger: A Homage to Strange Fruit” is a theatrical symphony structured into four movements. The play examines the legacy of white supremacist patriarchy and violence against Black bodies through the eyes of lost souls in a dilapidated railroad waiting room. Over the course of this week, Stacey will be working on refining the plays structures and some to the characters stories. Admission is FREE, but donations are always accepted. It’s lights, camera and attention at Camp North End as The Gantt Center is proud to present a special Photo Walk with Frankhavemercy this evening! Frankhavemercy is a Fayetteville, NC-raised, Los Angeles-based photographer and film director whose short films and editorial photography stem from a similar spirit and space. He is methodical about the moods of his work. He gives great thought to overall tones and composition by creating elaborate mood boards for every project he commits to. The presence of raw emotion and feeling is apparent in each piece regardless of the art medium. Explore Camp North End with Frankhavemercy and capture the sights that catch your eye and discover different locations through the lens of a camera. Celebrate the musical tradition of the Historic West End with local artists and JCSU student musicians for fifth revolution of a live throw down entitled Beats & Bars Jam Session No. 5! This weekend, get your cultural cinematic fix in at the 2nd Annual CineOdyssey Film Festival! The CineOdyssey Film Festival seeks to introduce audiences to diverse, contemporary films from around the world. The festival intends to give a platform to the next wave of filmmakers of color, celebrating their artistic achievements, as well as cultivating an appreciation of the art form, inspiring audiences to bridge cultural understanding. The three-day event will showcase the works of filmmakers from the U.S. and African, Caribbean, Latino, Asian, and Native American diasporas. This year’s impressive lineup of films will boldly address the multicultural issues of today, which meet at the intersection of race, class, and gender, as well as celebrating the creative craft of the artform. Three Bone Theatre is back to set the stage for your weekend as they proudly present their latest piece, “Appropriate.” Every estranged member of the Lafayette clan has descended upon the crumbling Arkansas homestead to settle the accounts of the newly-dead patriarch. As his three adult children sort through a lifetime of horded junk, they collide over clutter, debt, and a contentious family history. But after disturbing discoveries surface among their father’s possessions, the reunion takes a turn for the explosive, unleashing a series of crackling surprises and confrontations. Playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins examines dealing with family’s legacy of white supremacy in his new play, blending dark comedy with mystery. This play is directed by Sarah Provencal. “Appropriate” is rated “R” for adult language and content and is not recommended for those under 18. Jazz Arts Initiative returns for the month of July and this month’s installment of The Jazz Room will feature Amos Hoffman playing tribute to jazz icon Kenny Burrell. Guitarist, composer and Detroit native Kenny Burrell is one of the most respected jazz artists in the world. As a producer and recording artist, his extensive discography includes the critically acclaimed “Guitar Forms”, “Ellington is Forever” and “Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane.” Amos Hoffman is an Israeli Jazz guitarist and oudist known worldwide as a pioneer in fusing the rhythms and melodic themes of the Middle East with Modern Jazz. Hoffman started playing guitar at the age of six, and the oud a few years later. Following his studies at the prestigious Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem, his search for new musical experiences led him first to Amsterdam, and then to New York City.  This afternoon, join St. Lawrence & Martin at NoDa @ 28th Creative Arts Studios for the opening of their brand new exhibition entitled, “Cultural Dynamics –Realism to Abstract.”   Cultural Dynamics features a collection of four artists from the African and Latino Diaspora, who are affecting their environment through art with their visualizations which speaks to how they view the world, their imaginations and expressions in art. Their images show multi-faceted, multi-dimensional representations that convey a non-stereotypical point of view, a defining of their world in both traditional and non-traditional subject matter, from realism to abstract. It shows that African-American, African, Latino and Afro-Latino expressions in art at this juncture are intermingled and certainly not to be put in a small box as oftentimes the media and the art world does. The Rural Advancement Foundation International – RAFI and Come to the Table initiative invites you to the campus of JCSU proudly presenting its Equity at the Table Speaker Series this evening. For the final discussion in the series, “Hunger: A Racial Equity Issue”, come and hear the wisdom and insight from activist Minerva Delgado. In her talk Minerva will explain how racial inequity plays a role in the likelihood of whether someone will experience hunger. Participants will also take part in a wealth gap simulation that illustrates this reality. RAFI invites people of faith, farmers, activists, and journalists to come hear these perspectives addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion, while educating the community about food security issues.  Ladies, are you in need of a fun method to get in shape? This evening, come put some physical delight back in your life and join Turning Pointe Dance Creations for the Hip-Hop Heat Dance WERKshop! Come and learn some fly dance routines as well as getting yourselves in shape with a soundtrack of some fun and funky Hip Hop tunes that’ll definitely have those sweat beads glistening with Black Girl Magic! Your host for this class is the lovely Melissa McDaniel. No matter your dance level, everyone is welcome to participate. Admission is $12 per person and will begin at 7:30 p.m. The class will be held at LacedWell. 5221 Equipment Dr., Suite “D”.

Tonight, slide out to Petra’s for The UNDERGROUND Mobile Gallery Fundraiser & Urban Art Show! Come experience 360 degrees of cultural art, music and dance which is an integral part of the Black experience and existence. This showcase will promote and highlight self-awareness, pride, self-preservation all in the name of community togetherness. The UNDERGROUND Mobile Gallery will bring amazing visual, musical, poetic, graphic, and historical works from local and accessible Black artists to Charlotte lower-income neighborhoods. Their goal is to put an interactive Renaissance-style art movement right in the heart of the hood, thus giving the youth in Charlotte’s at risk neighborhoods (where there’s mad talent, but nowhere to cultivate it) the opportunity to work with local artists, musicians, writers, gardeners, and historians on their own turf! Admission is $5 per person. 8 p.m. Petra’s is located at 1919 Commonwealth Ave. in the Plaza-Midwood District.
