Greetings Brothers and sisters! I hope you all have enjoyed your holiday weekend and now “The Rundown” is back with a whole slew of goodies for this weekend! We’re scheduled to have to great weather, which is cool because there are a number of outdoor activities for you to indulge in! One of Disney’s most beloved stories comes to life on stage in a youthful twist—bring the pride out to Theatre Charlotte and experience the magic of “The Lion King, Jr.!” The African Savanna comes to life with Simba, Rafiki and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale. The holiday may be over, but it’s still time to celebrate life as The Charlotte HOUSE Movement proudly presents “Red, White & House!” Get ready to feel the flow as a slew of special guest DJs rocks out some classic and soulful House, Funk, Downtempo and Soul joints for you to enjoy! Admission is FREE until 8 p.m. After 8 p.m., members are $5 and nonmembers are $10. The party starts at 6 p.m. and will be held at Sydney’s Martini & Wine Bar. 401 N. Tryon St. in Uptown.

LG Productions invites you out to East African Restaurant & Bar this evening for a special Meet & Greet Social Networking Mixer. Bring your friends, coworkers and colleagues out to meet other local business professionals, gain new leads on services and opportunities. There will be food and drink specials available. Join Digital Divas and Talk of the City at Firehouse Bar & Lounge for “After Work Fridays!” Kick off the weekend with your friends, other mature professionals and come enjoy a bevy of cocktail specials, stogies, food, hookah, music and more! The Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library invites you to the Main Branch this evening for a special screening of their Scenes of a Black Woman film series. For tonight’s feature, come and view the 1996 crime drama, “Set It Off.” Scenes of a Black Woman is a series of films about Black women, created by Black filmmakers and a celebration of Black cinema! There will be a short discussion of themes and aesthetics after the film. Admission is FREE to attend. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the film will start at 6 p.m. The screening will take place at the Main Library Branch. 310 N. Tryon St. in Uptown.

This weekend, The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art invites you out for a very special edition of “Jazz at the Bechtler”—vocalist/actress Maria Howell reunites with the Ziad Jazz Quartet for a special two-night performance! Maria has been on several stages and featured in a number of films showcasing her classic artistry. She also has been known to leave audiences mesmerized with her powerful, sultry, smooth voice, mixing R&B, gospel and soul into her renditions of jazz classics.
