University City Farmers Market Returns for its First Full Market Season

University City Farmers Market Returns for its First Full Market Season

Success of the Fall Market Made Way for an Extended Schedule

CHARLOTTE, NC, April 29–University City Partners is excited to announce the continuation and first full season of University City Farmers Market for 2021. The only farmers market in University City will offer fresh local produce, food preparation programs and live entertainment and activities. The Market will open every Saturday in May through October from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vendors include some of the region’s best local farmers, artisanal food makers and pop-up chefs.

“The community has welcomed University City Farmers Market with open arms,” said Tobe Holmes, Planning and Development Director of University City Partners. “In addition to having more access to local food, visitors enjoy the weekly programming for children and adults. These efforts are helping to build community and offer small businesses more opportunity to expand their customer base. We are very pleased with the outcomes to date.”

University City Farmers Market launched in the fall of 2020. Organizers experienced consistently strong interest that made it possible to continue and lengthen the farmers market season. The farmers selected use organic practices to help steward the earth, and produce or source fresh and healthy food for the community. The market offers seasonal fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised eggs and meats, as well as artisanal food and natural beauty-care products from local farmers and entrepreneurs.

New this year, the farmers market will offer participation in a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Customers can sign up in advance and come to University City Farmers Market to pick up  weekly boxes of fresh produce from area farms assembled by the Farm at Dover Vineyards. The foods will change each season based on produce availability. For example, a spring selection may offer lettuce, strawberries, carrots, radishes and cilantro, while a summer selection offers tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, potatoes and basil. More details about the CSA are available here. Also new, University City Farmers Market will feature an outdoor cafe with Manolo Bakery and Detour Coffeebar.

Visitors can also expect live music and local chef demonstrations that incorporate food from the farmers market. Visit the lineup of musicians, bands, demonstrations and activities each week on Facebook. All demonstrations and music performances will practice social distancing in accordance with local and state guidelines for the health and safety of all visitors. Guests are encouraged to access the market by riding the LYNX Light Rail, walking or biking on the Barton Creek Greenway, or parking at Shoppes at University Place, 8929 JM Keynes Drive.
