The McColl Center for Art + Innovation invites your entire family to be part of their Introduction to Paper Clay Construction Class! Explore the possibilities of paper clay to create your own sculptures. In this workshop, alumnus artist Tom Thoune shows you how to manipulate, mold, and sculpt this versatile medium, as well as explains the differences between fired and unfired clay methods. City of Charlotte Government invites you to join City Councilwoman Lawana Mayfield for a special discussion entitled Police Relationships in Communities of Color.   The forum will explore underlying issues that influence police-community relationships. Attendees will take part in a discussion about Charlotte’s history of segregation and implicit bias. Featured speakers include Judge Elisa Chinn-Gary and local historian Tom Hanchett. This afternoon, head over to The Gantt Center for the book release and singing of the all-new poetic memoir “And Then Tamir.” This book of poetry by Charlotte’s own, Emmy Award-winning and my Radio Rehab comrade Boris “Bluz” Rogers inquires as a reflection on the deaths of people of color by police since Tamir Rice’s murder. Each poem starts with “and then Tamir” followed by Bluz offering his poetic perspective surrounding the tragic events of each person. Rogers’ frustration and anger at Tamir’s death and the all the deaths that followed that no one seemed to care about, birthed this powerful book of poetry. Bluz did not want Tamir’s name (and the names of countless others) and what happened to be forgotten. A portion of proceeds from each book will be donated to the Tamir Rice Foundation.
