The Discovery Place kicks off a weekend of scientific fun and tonight, come travel to a fantasy world full of magic, flavor tripping, mirrors, edible plants and more at Science on the Rocks: Down the Rabbit Hole! Just like Alice, get to know some unusual creatures along the way, including hedgehogs, caterpillars, turtles and other animals that live in our wonderland with all sorts of wild, cool and crazy experiments! Black Business Owners of Charlotte (BBOC) has been on a serious roll with recycling our coins back into our community and tonight, get your stomachs revved up at Recess CLT for another round of Black Food Truck Friday! Bring all your friends and family out for an evening of fun as you dine from some of the city’s finest and most delicious Chocolate culinary chariots, scoop up some cool fashions and trinkets from local vendors, have chances to win cool prizes and get down on the good foot to the sounds of DJ Steel Wheel! Jazz Arts Initiative returns for some more musical fun as they invite you out for the November installment of their critically-acclaimed performance series The Jazz Room! This weekend, piano virtuoso Charles Craig returns with his trio to perform remarkable re-interpretations of the timeless compositions by one of his greatest influences, jazz piano icon Erroll Garner. Craig’s early training was classical music, which he played exclusively until age 17. Though concentrating on piano, he also played trumpet, trombone, cornet, and other brass instruments. Craig attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and had played with many of the world’s top jazz icons. Liberate Your Palate CLT is back for more Friday fun and tonight they invite you to join them for their Hands-on Mixology Class – Thanksgiving Entertaining this evening! Come check out their new home, Sweet Spot Studio CLT, which is designated to house people wanting to learn baking basics and perfect their pastry technique. In tonight’s class, you’ll get to mix and sample a variety of cocktails that are perfect for your Thanksgiving entertaining. You will be echoing flavors from the table, as well as exploring punches and drinks that can be scaled up to handle the crowd. Explore your inner creativity at Warehouse 242 as Playing For Others hosts “Arte-socish” this evening. “Arte-socish” is a word we made up to define an event that uses the arts to explore social issues. The word itself is made up of the first letter of each of the ten social issues you’ll be exploring at the event tonight: Access, Representation, Transformation, Empowerment, Sustainability, Openness, Community, Independence, Self-Care and Honesty. This multisensory evening will feature spoken word from teen artists, live creations from visual artists, a slam competition, raffle prizes and much more! Tonight, the stage is set for a magical showcase of music and the good people of Jazz N’ Soul Music, TiMar Entertainment and Tochi Bueno Productions invite you out to SoulFlo: The Concert Experience! Prepare yourself to be positively entertained, encouraged and excited as featured artists Arsena Schroeder, OneWayNorth, Sons of Harvest and Emily Sage bring forth soulful and inspirational vocal performances designated to create a “flo” that’ll definitely touch your soul! If your ears have a desire to be engorged with some lucid, liquid and lush lyricism this evening, come out to The McGlohon Theatre at Spirit Square for the SlamCharlotte Poetry Slam! Whether you are a connoisseur, creative or just curious come out to hear from and mingle with some truly talented individuals. Admission is $10 and the slam will begin at 8 p.m. The McGlohon Theatre is located at 345 N. College St. in Uptown.

This weekend, Canadian actor and uber geek, Charles Ross, brings his solo madcap creation One-Man Star Wars Trilogy to the stage in this mind-bending whirlwind of a show. Ross retells the classic bad hair trilogy in 60 minutes- no costumes, no props, no sets- all the characters, the music, the ships, and the battles. If your kid’s name is Chewbacca, this show is a no-brainer. If not, get your nerd on and experience the global sensation loved by audiences from London’s West End, Off-Broadway, Dubai, the Sydney Opera House, Lucasfilm and Charlie’s mom. The Force is strong with this one. Everyone rise, shine and head down to The Discovery Place for the A Day in the Life: Healthy Eating & Sports Science Seminar this morning! Join staff from Atrium Health to learn about healthy eating habits. Learn about wellness, sleep, nutrition and mental health from community partners such as HealthWorks and the Sleep Center. Be an advocate for Black women and girls in Charlotte and come out to the When And Where I Enter: An Advocacy Training session this morning. This afternoon, join Charlotte Mecklenburg Library as they host the third installment of their brand new interactive cinematic platform entitled “The Vulnerable Black Man Film Series.” In today’s society, the Black man has been pitted against our own livelihood leaving us devoid of necessary expression of our emotions. Slide out to the Sugar Creek Library this afternoon and get ready to experience “Traveling Blue: Live Music from Latin America to New Orleans.” This concert series is the second of five programs included in the series “Traveling Blue.” Today, you’ll have the pleasure of enjoying the sounds of Latin American folk music to Mississippi blues and traditional Jazz as featured vocalists Tenya Colemon and Ana Lucia Divins will share separately and together the songs that stir their souls.
