By winning many comedy competitions, starting a successful monthly comedy showcase, and gaining the respect of comedians that have been doing it 20+ years, Ryan proved that the amount of stand-up comedy success that he saw in such a short period of time was not a fluke. Join Create Amazing, LLC as they host the Black Friday Comedy edition of Paint & Play at Apostrophe Lounge this evening! It explores these issues in a humorous and entertaining way to help explain some of the complexities that exist in the areas of gentrification and climate change. These shorts will have you laughing, thinking and coming up with a MASTER plan on how to be a part of the solution and get off the sideline and into the game. This evening, come out to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in conjunction with The Asbury for a very special community culinary conversation and dinner with Mr. Michael Twitty! A writer, culinary historian, and historical interpreter, Twitty traced his ancestors back to their arrival in the 1700s as enslaved Africans. In NC, he traces his lineage back to 1674. His new book, the aptly-titled “The Cooking Gene”, chronicles that story. In the process of claiming his kin, he also claims his food. His writing confronts the issues of race, class, and Southern culture in his ongoing journey throughout life.
