Over a dozen of local restaurants, caterers and food purveyors will serve samples of their best dish or beverage in one bite or one sip samples. Tonight’s episode entitled “The Beyonce Edition” will focus on the artistry of Beyonce with open mic performances based upon song titles from his catalog. Eats will be provided by Chef Edwin Organix and DJ Blanco will be spinning a sonic blend of Beyonce’s hits, album cuts, remixes and much more! Admission is FREE. Put some funk in your Friday and head down to Recess CLT as Black Business Owners of Charlotte provides some more community fun with Black Food Truck Friday: “SummerMusicTour” R&B Edition! Gather all your friends and family out for an evening of community while you dine from some of the city’s finest and most delicious Chocolate culinary chariots! Also, be sure to scoop up some cool fashions and trinkets from local vendors, enter in raffles to win cool prizes and get down on the good foot to the sounds of DJ Steel Wheel with a special mix of R&B from all eras! Celebrate Black August at The Gantt Center as they extend a Black-fisted invitation to you for Art After Dark this evening! Black August is a month to commemorate the struggle/resilience of Black people with origins stemming from the August 1971 killing of Black Panther George Jackson, the 1619 arrival of slaves in Virginia, the Haitian Revolution of 1791 and many other historical occurrences. Get in the mix with all sorts of creative networking, art showcases, guided tours, fun workshops, live music and much more! Come and celebrate the Artists-in-Residence for the months of June/July: Milik Kashad, Lenny Muckle, David Sackett, and Kat Sánchez Standfield with new works that include new installations, sculpture, mixed media works, and compositions. There will also be an interactive film screening and visual performances from featured artists. This afternoon, slide out to Tip Top Daily Market for a special sonic brunch entitled Scrambled Eggs! Come and relax as DJs Luke Stemmerman and Flock of Slagles sets the mood with a selection of avant-garde Dub, Reggae, Fusion, Soul and Jazz tunes from their own personal vinyl collections. Also, be sure to grab a tasty mimosa from the bar and be sure to grab some tasty brunch eats from Killer B’s food truck! This Sunday afternoon, join Mr. Felix Curtis at The Gantt Center as he hosts Classic Black Cinema Series screening of “Lying Lips”. This 1939 release from groundbreaking filmmaker Oscar Micheaux centers around a nightclub singer whom refuses to “date” customers. As a result, she’s framed for the murder of her aunt, convicted of the killing and sent to prison. However, her friend, who is a police detective, doesn’t believe she did it and sets out to prove her innocence. The film screening is FREE with film admission. The screening will begin promptly at 2 p.m. The Gantt Center is located at 551 S. Tryon St. in Uptown.

Treat your ears to the sounds of the finest jazz grooves in the city and head down to Spirit Square for the Queen City Jazz Collective this evening! Grab your friends and grab a seat as some of the finest local jazz dignitaries take the stage for a time of musical magic! Your evening delight will be provided by John Dillard on bass, saxophonist Gabriel Bello, guitarist Paul Dozier, with soul crooner Ken Gober and the ever-fine Gena Chambers adding a touch a vocal beauty into the atmosphere.
